How much a Cape Point tour costs

The price on a Cape Point tour listing is the start of the bill, not the end. Here is what each of the five tours costs once the park gate, the penguins and the funicular are added.

A shared van and a guide for $40 to $46. The gates come on top.

Shared Cape Point tours on GetYourGuide start at $40 for a half day and $44 for a full day. Those are fair prices for hotel pickup, a guide and up to ten hours on the road. They are not the price of the day. On every shared tour here the park gate and the penguin gate are paid on the day, and from 1 November 2026 that adds R874, about $54, for a foreign adult.

Below, each tour's from-price is set against the gates and the funicular. Rand fees are from SANParks' 2026-27 card, converted at R16.22 to the dollar (FRED, September 2026). Tour prices are from-prices in USD and move with the season.

The quick answer

Plan on about $98 per person for the $44 full-day tour, $94 for the $40 half day, $205 for the private day and $129 for the Table Mountain combo, before the funicular. The e-bike tour is $149 with the park fee already inside. The funicular adds about $7, and food and tips are on you.

Is the entrance fee included in Cape Point tours?

On four of the five, no. Only the e-bike tour puts the park fee in its price. The others collect it on the day.

The listings make this harder than it should be. The full-day tour lists the park and Boulders entries under "Includes", with rand prices, then says under "Know before you go" that entrance fees are paid on site by cash or card. The Table Mountain combo does the same with the cableway. The private tour names the gate, Boulders, boat and funicular fees in its includes list at old 2024-25 figures, while its itinerary marks the same stops "extra fee". The half day is the clearest: "Extra fee" against each gate.

Read every one of those as a fee you pay. The gates themselves are card-only, so bring a bank card.

What does a Cape Point day cost per person, all in?

From about $94 (half day) to $212 (private with funicular) for a foreign adult from 1 November 2026. The e-bike day lands at $149 to $166.

Tour from-price, plus R592 park gate and R282 Boulders (about $54), plus the funicular return at R115 (about $7). Meals and tips are left out.

Private$151$54$205$212

The cableway figure is the online adult return of R475 from Table Mountain Cableway; the ticket office charges R530. The funicular rate is the 2025-26 price, valid to 31 October 2026, because the 2026-27 rate was not yet published. Children aged 2 to 11 pay R288 and R138 at the gates, about $26 together.

Which Cape Point tour is the best value?

The $44 full day, for most people. For $4 more than the half day you get Hout Bay, lunch in Simon's Town and twice the time at the penguins.

Once the $54 in gates is added, the gap between the half day ($94) and the full day ($98) almost disappears. The full day has about an hour at Boulders against 25 minutes, a Hout Bay harbour stop and a Simon's Town lunch break. The half day wins only if your afternoon is already booked, and one guest was glad of it: "I am really glad that I didn't go for a full day trip."

The e-bike tour looks dear at $149, but it carries the R592 park fee, so the real gap with a shared tour is closer to $50 than $100. The private day costs about twice the shared one and buys your own pace. Is Cape Point worth it? covers which kind of traveller each suits.

How much does a private Cape Point tour cost?

From $151 per person with Beyond Africa Safaris, Gray Line's local partner, plus the gates on the day. About $205 per person with the gates.

You get your own guide-driver in a Mercedes-Benz or similar, pickup at your accommodation, phone chargers and the Chapman's Peak toll. The car is wheelchair accessible and the day needs little walking. Stops run about an hour each at Boulders, the Cape of Good Hope and the newer Cape Point lighthouse, with Bo-Kaap, Hout Bay and Noordhoek along the way.

The listing asks you to bring a credit card, which tells you how the gates work. Ostrich farm and wine tasting stops are optional extras. Families with young kids or slow walkers get the most out of the extra $107.

Your own car and guide, an hour at each stop, step-free if you need it.

Is it cheaper to drive to Cape Point yourself?

The gates cost the same: R592 and R282 per foreign adult. You add the Chapman's Peak toll of R68 per car, fuel and your car, and drop the tour price.

For two foreign adults in a car you already have, the fixed costs are R1,748 in gates plus R68 toll: R1,816, about $112, before fuel. Two seats on the full-day tour cost $88 on top of the same gates. Self-driving saves money only if you already have the car and want no guide.

It has other costs. The gate takes one payment per vehicle, card only. Gate entry runs 06:00 to 18:00 from October to March and 07:00 to 17:00 from April to September, and cars leaving after closing are fined. Baboons open unlocked car doors. And the driver misses the view on Chapman's Peak.

What is not included in the tour price?

Meals, drinks, tips, the funicular and, on four tours, the gates. The full day adds the optional Seal Island boat at R140.

  • Food: the full day stops for lunch in Simon's Town, paid by you. The half day has no lunch stop. The e-bike listing names lunch under "Includes" but its description says lunch is not included; budget for it.
  • Seal Island boat: 45 minutes from Hout Bay, R140 adult and R70 child, optional on the full day.
  • Funicular: R115 return, R100 one way, on every tour.
  • Cableway: R475 online on the Table Mountain combo, not in its price.
  • Tips: not included anywhere. Plan on something for a good guide.

Can you cancel a Cape Point tour for free?

Yes. All five tours cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before the start, and the full day lets you reserve now and pay later.

Free cancellation covers the tour price only. Gate fees are paid on the day, so nothing is lost there if you cancel. That makes it sensible to book early in the December to January peak and cancel if the forecast turns. Fog and wind are the two things that spoil Cape Point; the weather section of our verdict explains when to move your date.
